2019 Winters Family Reunion Committee
2019 Winters Family Reunion
In 2013, I visited Texas to meet my maternal aunts, uncle and step grandmother for the first time (Read my story here). While in Texas, I also spent some time with my Uncle Edward Spiller. That’s when I met cousin Virginia “Shane” Norman.
Driving around Galveston, she introduced me to several relatives. Later, she took me to the birthday celebration of Anita Thomas-Williams’ mother, Rosie Lee Winters. I had never seen so many family members in my life. Shane continued to introduce me to cousins over time. She would always say, that there are so many of us, and somebody should get us all together.
So in 2018, that’s what we did. Even though we had never met each other in person, a reunion committee was formed from the descendants of 12 original siblings. Using Zoom to communicate, we met, brainstormed, and planned the event. Your committee members worked extremely hard, were dedicated, overcame every obstacle and persevered. I am so proud of them! Yet, they presented ME with a Legacy Award plaque. They are all heroes in my book.
Then, in June of 2019, we held the first All Winters Family reunion in 31 years.
