Generational Blessings
Why does God care about a family’s generations? After all, some ancestors have been gone for decades, if not centuries. God cares for a reason. When I look at my youngest grandchild, Othello Benjamin Mixon, born in 2020, there are seven generations from him to my maternal great-great-grandfather, James Winters Sr. (1945-1907). From James’ Wife, Senora Scales, there are ten generations from Othello to Charity (1764-1826). You can see the Winters Family Genealogy here. But again, why does God care? The answer is because of the application of generational blessings, and curses too.
My wife, Antoinette sent me the scripture below in a text this morning, so I thought I would share.
The first chapter of the New Testament book of Matthew verses 1 through 16 identifies the genealogy of Jesus, starting from Abraham and listing the father and their children. The summary of these are found in the 17th verse:
[Mat 1:17 NKJV] 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon [are] fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ [are] fourteen generations.
That’s a whopping forty-two generations! Furthermore, the verse defines Jesus’ direct line and doesn’t even go into siblings and cousins.
Blessings or Curses to the Generations
The answer to my original question is that God keeps track, and that’s how those Generational Blessings, as well as curses, are distributed.
[Deu 7:9 NKJV] 9 “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He [is] God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Some seem to dwell on God being an angry vindictive God. After all, Vengence is mine says the Lord, and I’m here to remind you that eternal life is real.
Others simply limit Him to being a God of Love. Don’t be fooled by social media. How about you get to know Him for yourself and then decide?
According to scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, the truth is, He’s both. It all depends on how He sees your soul. Those same scriptures state that you’re either stained by sin, or washed in the blood of the Lamb.
We have all seen the “Only God can judge Me” memes. While cute, that is so misleading. Do you really want to wait until you stand before God in Judgement? Don’t be that guy…or girl.
[Gal 6:7 NKJV] 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Translation, in case you missed that; You will reap what you sow.
But don’t worry, we all make mistakes in life; some small and others enormous. Yet there is hope for each of us; even me. God can forgive.
Do you seem to be constantly trapped in bad situations? Its not your imagination. Generational curses are real, but you don’t have to settle for remaining in the bondage of their tight grip. Through Christ, you can be free. Because if you let Him set you free, you will be free indeed.
The opposite of cursing is blessing and they both come with a cost. So, why not walk in blessings instead of curses?
Just know this. I’m praying for generational curses to be removed, and released from your lives. I’m praying that you are blessed and prosperous.
The Blessing – Song & Lryics
I love this song and it is my prayer for you, our family, and us. As of this writing, I’m making plans for this to be sung at our 2022 Family Reunion during Sunday’s church service. The reunion event will be Juneteenth weekend on Friday, June 17, Saturday, June 18, with a church service on Sunday, June 19th. Don’t just attend on Friday and Sunday, stay for our family Sunday service!
Listen to this song on Youtube, and keep this in your prayers
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children
May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you

Straight word from God. I appreciate all of my blessings I receive. The good book also says “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.”
Thank you Leonard for having a giving spirit. May God continue to bless you and your household.
You’re welcome, Cynthia! And thank you for the encouraging comment.
